Once again a devoted radio enthusiast Mickey Dalton has kindly provided some background on this 2NX promotion
Not sure where the idea originated but 2NXscape was one of a series of promotions built around the call sign. It was just a unique way to badge a trip giveaway competition. As I recall I spent an entire weekend doing the whole series of promo’s voiced by the PD Gary Roberts (now GM at Nova, Perth). (tech note: Although mixed in mono I used a 4 track to construct the promo’s).
We also had 2NXchange where we printed “fake” dollar notes as part of the promotion. We got into trouble with the reserve bank because the design at first glance was close to a real dollar note. Same size, same colour. (See Attached). People were passing them off as real money despite the obvious differences.
We had 2NXpedition which was basically a car rally. We broadcast clues to locations around the Newcastle area. People had to figure out where it was and drive to that spot and check in. Eventually it lead to a “secret” location where we held a live concert. I think it was the Angels.
Thank you, Mickey, and I would not have known the voiceover man was Gary Roberts, great job Gary, of course another Australian radio pioneer founded 96 went to Mix and now heads DMG’s Perth operation
